Twin Cup Coffee Maker - Want It - Make It - Drink It - Love It
Arthur Senior

EXPERIENCE: First of all, I have to say, I am quite impressed with this unit. Some of the features I love about this coffee maker is the fact it comes with two thermal travel mugs which work excellently, even with the tops off! I also like the removable drip trays, and the permanent nylon filters. And as a bonus, it also comes with a mini scoop! Using this coffee makers is really simple.MAKING COFFEE: Some people like their coffee weak, some like it strong, I have found through personal experience that two scoops of coffee from the mini scoop, will fill the filters up to half way, and I feel that is the perfect amount for me, not too weak, not too strong. The filter bays basically slide outward from the back of the coffee maker, each filter has its own handle so you can pull it out.Put two whole scoops of coffee into the filters, and replace them back into the machine, and slide the filter bays back into place. Fill the reservoir to the 2-cup level if you are making two cups, or to the 1-cup level if your making one cup. Remember that this coffee maker has the ability to make individual cups of coffee, so if making only one cup, only put coffee in the left side filter basket.Using the switch on the top, I am able to select weather I want one cup of coffee or two cups of coffee. But even more importantly, if somebody drinks decaf and I drink caffanated, You can make them in their own separate filter baskets, without any unwanted contamination! Even cooler, I can make coffee in the left travel mug, and I can make hot coco or tea in the right travel mug!REVIEWER ARGUMENTS: I bought this coffee maker on Amazon, so I have been privileged to read all the reviewer arguments. Let me discuss each one...(The first reviewer stated that the cups were nice but the it splattered all over the place, regardless of how you positioned the cup.)Sorry, but I had no problem with the coffee maker brewing my coffee into the travel mugs, there is only one way to position the cup, the way it was intended, and there was no liquid all over the place.(The second reviewer stated that the coffee was never hot, that it was warm at best and didn't stay that way for very long.)Sorry, but I felt the coffee maker got my coffee nice and hot, so hot infact that it got the outside of the travel mugs more then warm. The coffee was hot, and it stayed that way with the top off for a whole freaking hour! Imagine what the top on would have done? DOUBLE IT!!! Lol(The third reviewer stated that the product was misleading, that it did not contain two separate brewers in one. He states that he could not do tea in one and coffee in the other. And that the switch did not allow for 1-cup brewing.)Sorry, but once again, you have to actually own the product before you badmouth it. He obviously didn't know what he was talking about, as the coffee maker does have two separate brewers, and there is a switch to select 1-cup or 2-cup brewing.(A couple reviewers said that the label on the cup switch was also mislabeled.)Sorry, but the switch is labeled just fine. When I slide the switch to the 2-cup mark, it makes 2-cups. When I slide it to the 1-cup mark, it makes 1-cup. This is not rocket science, but maybe some people should read the manual that comes with the coffee maker?CONCLUSION: Like all coffee makers, this one is made out of plastic, but it is a very shinny plastic. Black in color with a crème colored reservoir tank window. I feel that this coffee maker is sleek in design, looks nice, and who doesn't love the travel mugs! When a coffee maker can brew your coffee in 5-minutes or less, that's when you say YES MAM! Do I like this coffee maker, why yes I do, and I give it a 5 out of 5!

Morning options - Coffe and Tea
Vic K

I bought this unit becasue my one cup at a time Keurig unit gave up the ghost. I have tried two other single cup at a time coffee/tea makers but thought the idea of having coffe and tea (I drink tea in the morning and my SO drinks coffee) out of one unit was awesome.I tried it out for the first time this morning and it worked as expected. Coffee on one side and tea on the other.Pros:1. You can brew two of the same or different morning beverages.2. Comes with its own travel mugs, although I still used my own.3. Both beverages came out tasting as expected, just like the Keurig unit used to make, but at a much lower cost.4. Cost - very cheap to purcahse unit and per cup cost is low (compared to Keurig).Cons:1. No timer, so you need to push the button when you want it to brew. So, I dinged it for half a star.2. Slow to brew. Not sure how you may feel about that, but I like my tea brewed faster. So, I dinged it for half a star.

Hits the spot!

This product is everything we needed in one small coffeemaker. I drink regular coffee and my husband drinks decaf. Before purchasing this coffeemaker we had to make one kind and put it in a thermal carafe and then make the other kind. This coffeemaker makes it possible for us to make one kind in each cup at the same time. The coffee baskets don't require filters so that is a nice savings both for us and the environment. Some reviewers complained about the coffee not staying hot enough to travel with but we are retired and can sit with our coffee while it is still hot.

Best value!
Kat

I love the newest version of the Keurig B40 - this version features an additional size option, making three available sizes - ~6, 8, and 10 oz! No need to fill the water for each cup made - nope, this one has a reservoir! Another nice thing about this one (as opposed to cheaper Keurigs) is that it accommodates nearly all coffee mugs. The drip tray pulls out to allow for larger mugs! I have two of these (one at home and one at work) and they are awesome - no regrets about buying either of them. Some people do have issues with the cost of the k-cups - considering my alternative is buying Dunkin Donuts, the Kuerig's ~50 cents per cup is saving me money (and time). There are also many available k-cup filters that you can buy so that you can use any coffee with the machine.Pros:-Consistency in brew - you will get the same flavor each time you brew the same type of coffee-Convenience - it is quick, easy, and there is minimal clean-up-Lots of variety in k-cupsCons:-Water has a tendency to be the temperature of molten lava - you probably will want to let your cup-of-joe cool for a minute or twoI highly recommend this brewer to coffee addicts like me!

GREAT cup of coffee
Mr. V.

What A GREAT cup of coffee. On the market today are countless different coffees available to you, including Dunkin Donut et al. This one is bundled with a box of different ones from which to choose (Italian, French...lite, heavy or decafinated etc), in case you just hit upon the one you love. And hot? This cup is REALLY hot, beware! You'll love it. Choose your coffee and plop into place, put your empty mug in place, push lever down, press blinking button(there's a choice of 3 from which to choose depending on size of mug) and, voila....that's it! Takes about a minute, maybe less. Oh, and blue light at rear of unit blinks, too, when you need to add more water to giant reservoire. A breeze! Jury is out though re: long range durability of unit. Enjoy!

Great Selection
Bill Learning

I got a Keurig Elite B40 for Christmas and I am delighted. The coffee is brewed great every single time. The elite 40 has a 48 oz reservoir and will brew coffee in about 30 seconds. This is one of the models that the user supplied coffee can be used in one of the several KCup reusable filters that are available. You can use your favorite brand of coffee. Be aware that all models can not use these reusable filters. This one doesThere are lots of different varieties of hot drinks to choose from, not just coffee. There are some iced drinks as well. This model has 3 cup sizes 6, 8, and 10 ozI like hot coffee as well as iced coffee. When it comes out of this brewer it is very very hot. Cleaning is simple enough, a quick rinse, run it without any k cups, and wipe it off occasionally.I was one of those that roasted my own coffee and swore that I was the best coffee maker in town. I swore that given the right water temperature a consistent great tasting cup of coffee could only be had in a large pot brewing system. (10 to 12 cups)Eating crow is sometimes a good thing. The Keurig is a great brew machine and I love all the different flavors of coffee that are so readily available. In a large pot brewing method the flavors will actually blend with each pot brewed. Therefore it is not a great idea to brew some of the stronger flavors like vanilla, or cinnamon, caramel. Eventually in a pot brewer all the coffee you brew in your pot will be a mixture of all the flavors.Keurig it doesn't. The brew method is designed to change out the brewing container for each cup of coffee which is why each cup taste exactly like it is supposed to.In a regular pot / hot water press container type brewing system each brew imparts a flavor on the pot. If you keep the same brew all the time then this would be a good thing. If you brewed different flavors eventually all those flavors would melt together.I enjoy lots of brews of lots of kinds, hot Chocolate, tea, coffee, vanilla, caramel, dark, light, medium. My Keurig now proudly sits on the counter ready for whatever my heart desires in this moment. Ready at my whim to brew the drink of my choice.

Great coffee maker, still figuring out things
Marc From Brooklyn

This is not the Keurig where you fill it up once and brew for the rest of the day. This is a single shot. It is very simple to work though and with the right blend you will enjoy the coffee experience. There are 3 size settings and it is idiot proof. The bottom has a catch in case you forget to put the cup, which I did once this week as I use this at work. I brought the Ekobrew as well so I can save on the K-cups and recycle/reuse. I figured out you need a finely ground bean to make the Ekobrew most effective with this Keurig, so I just now am buying a grinder (was using a friend's in the office). It works awesome when you grinder your own beans and brews a richer cup of coffee this way. Plus it really is fresher.

Great Product
Susan J. Harvey

Aerobie Aeropress makes the best cup of coffee we have ever tasted.
Marebare

Hands down the best coffee maker we have ever used. However the stainless filter leaves much to be desired. First, The coffee does not drip well through this filter and when I used the plunger, it made a mess. It also left a metallic taste to the coffee. We went back to the paper filters and are back to the perfect cup of coffee!

AeroPress Makes The Best Cup of Coffee You'll Ever Drink
Michael Sigers

I have to give the AeroPress 5 Stars because it's foolproof, indestructible and makes the best cup of coffee I've ever had.I found this thing thru Tim Ferriss' 4 Hour Chef. I then watched about 20 YouTube video's and ordered it from Amazon.I can get the entire rig setup, grind fresh beans and be ready before my water is boiling, so it's a lot faster than you would imagine or believe. We've also compared it to a drip coffeemaker and it's just as fast to make 2 unbelievable cups in the AeroPress as it is to make 8 average cups by the drip method. You DESERVE unbelievable and mindblowing coffee in your life, so forget about average! The keys are:1) Use great beans and grind them as you need them.2) Use water that's between 180* and 190*. It's easy to wait 30 seconds from boiling to perfect, so don't waste your efforts by using water that's too hot. Any cooler than 180* and you'll risk having it too cool if you add chilled creamer.3) Test your brew times to find YOUR favorite taste. Could be as quick as 30 seconds, could be 90 seconds, but all you have to do is try it in 30 seconds intervals for your first 4-5 cups and you'll find the best ROI on your time.Simple. Easy. Mindblowing.

Yum! Great value and (as it turns out) easily portable.
Deborah I. Ross

Really loving this product! The stainless filter is trouble-free and cleanup is a breeze. I will give this as a gift to my travel-loving friends who enjoy coffee. I am a tea drinker but after a recent trip to Italy I had to try to make the fabulous espresso at home. It really is as good as I got in Italy. Must use filtered water, finely ground fresh quality coffee (Italian espresso of course---NOT SBux!)) and FOLLOW instructions. I also bought a full-sized Italian Espresso machine at the same times and this makes comparatively great coffee with little clean up or prep time.

For that Perfect Morning or Evening Beverage!
P. Perry

Let me first start by saying that I hesitate to call this device by its full name as this is much more than a traditional coffee maker! Honestly though, to most the Tassimo Single Serve Units are no different that the numerous Keurig models on the market; I mean, after all, it is pretty much just the same type of device right?? Well, there's several differences in the product that clearly defines the system.STYLEFor styling the Tassimo T45 isn't very different than most of the other Single Cup Brewing Stations on the Market and this likely won't win any awards for looks but it isn't so hideous that you don't want it in your kitchen either.OPERATIONBrewing is as simple as Filling the Water tank, lifting the lever and installing a coffee pack, placing a cup on the stand and pushing brew and if desired tweaking the brew by pushing the brewing button within 20 seconds of brewing completion. Of course multiple packs might be used if you're wanting to make more complex drinks.SEPARATIONSo the Tassimo has okay styling, simple operation and the pros certainly outweigh the cons but what really separates it from Keurig and prevents it from being an Also Ran in the Single Cup Brewing Market?Well, there are a few things that separate it:First, are the bar coded coffee packets that tell the machine how to brew the product and this allows the manufacturer to give you the perfect brew right in your own home!Second, when brewing Cappuccinos or Lattes the unit will use a multiple Cartridge approach like the Keurig but the Tassimo uses real Milk, not some powdered confection, and the bar code allows for the perfect frothing based on the beverage being served. The Tassimo is able to achieve these things by using a Hot Water on Demand System to alter the brewing temperature on the fly and the Barcode allows the coffee company to tell the brewer the exact temp the Coffee should be and exactly how much water should be used for their product. On top of this, the system uses a pressurized brewing system to control the time it takes to brew and this process actually emulates a French Press.Of course, some manufacturers brew on the stronger side because the Tassimo allows you to soften the brew but there's no control for the user, to make the brew stronger and fortunately, the Tassimo single button allows for this to be done.FEATURESPros* Adjustable, or removable, cup stand - Using pretty much any coffee mug and most travel mugs is brew and go.* Uses Single Button operation - Brew and Adjust the Strength with the Same Button.* Built in Filtration - Garbage in Garbage Out, Assures a cleaner beverage than just ordinary tap water.* LEDs - Indicate time to Descale (Clean) the unit or fill the Tank.* Removable Water Tank - No more pouring water into your coffee maker and getting your counter all wet.* Multiple Cartridge Brewing - Makes for More Complex Drinks.* Pricing - The Unit is priced competitively with Keurig models but the Coffee Cartridges are Less Expensive for the Tassimo.* Bar Coded Cartridges - Help Control the Brewing Process* Hot Water On Demand - Allows Changing Temp On The Fly.* Pressurized Brewing System - Emulates a French Press and Helps Control Brewing Time.Cons* Limited Variety - The Tassimo library is growing but it isn't as large as the Keurig Offerings at the moment.NOTABLESThe Device is much more than a coffee maker as it brews Coffee, Gourmet Beverages, Iced Coffee, Tea, Iced Tea, Hot Chocolate, Apple Cider and the Like. This is in no way limited to being just a Coffee Maker and I really wish they wouldn't label it as such.CONCLUSIONWhen we set out to purchase a SIngle Cup Brewing Station we basically had to choose between he Keurig and the Tassimo but ultimately the Tassimo won out for us as the final brewing process allowed more control to both the manufacturers of the Brewing Cartridges and it allowed us to tweak the brew strength to our liking. For some, the limited variety of Cartridges might make the system a bad choice but for others, like myself, it is okay if the quality of the product is high and the price per beverage is reasonably priced.Overall, though, the product is very good quality all around and it is really hard to go wrong with this system but I'm only giving it 4 stars until more coffee houses get on board.

Fresh Brewed Bliss - But not for everyone...
M. Fried

OUT OF BOX EXPERIENCEThe brewer was well packaged and a pleasure to open up. The manufacturer clearly took the unboxing experience into consideration, and put some thought into it -- not on par with Apple for example, but certainly more thought than I'm used to seeing from small appliance manufacturers.CRAFTSMANSHIP, FIT & FINISH and MATERIALSThat fabled German engineering is clearly in evidence here. I can personally say BOSCH also makes some amazing large appliances (their dishwashers are fantastic), but they aren't widely known here in the states. Materials selection is great. Nice sturdy plastics, and attractive finishes that also feel pleasant to the touch. The water tank is probably the least 'premium' feeling part of the brewer, but there aren't any moving parts and barring a drop out a second story window, I don't think it will be a source of trouble. The brewer has sufficient heft that I can tell the internals are manufactured with some substance, and it doesn't have that "disposable" feel that so many small electrics have these days. That being said, it's not so heavy that its difficult to lift or move. Closing the lid of the brewing mechanism after inserting a t-disc provides a satisfying amount of resistance and finishes with great tactile feedback once the t-disc is locked properly in place and the brewing chamber is sealed.USING THE DEVICEThe small but adequate LCD screen makes using the product all but foolproof. It tells you when to put in the disc, when to wait, and when to remove the disc. You also get an opportunity to hold the start button to dispense more beverage (if for example you wanted your beverage more dilute, or wanted to top off your mug).Additionally, it lets you know when the water tank is running low or when cleaning is recommended. The included optional water filter is a welcome feature for me as we have god-awful water here, however I think the suggested replacement interval is a bit excessive. I replace it roughly quarterly with good results.DEEP BREWED FLAVORI have tried just about every flavor and variety of t-disc offered in the states and have even purchased some varieties only available in europe from online foreign grocery shops. I am not a coffee connoisseur, but I know the difference between 'blech!' and 'yum!'. All of the coffee varieties I have tasted have been good to great, and most coffee drinkers should have no problem finding a variety that suits their individual tastes. The teas are wonderful, as is the Milka brand hot chocolate -- try dropping a marshmallow or two in your mug and then brewing the hot chocolate on top -- truly a treat. Personally, my favorite is the Chai Latte -- I made the mistake of getting my friends and neighbors hooked on it as well. The fact that the brewer reads the barcodes on the t-discs and 'knows' what it's brewing is really cool. This is how it automatically adjusts water volume, temperature, and pressure as well as brew time and frothing, which it appears to do by expelling steam. This seems far more advanced than other pod/capsule type brewers, which are more or less oblivious to the type of drink they are preparing.I have no trouble finding the t-discs at Bed Bath & Beyond, or here at Amazon, and make a habit of buying in bulk for conveniences sake. Just recently I have also noticed the t-discs beginning to appear (albeit with a somewhat limited selection) at my local grocery and at Target.JUST LIKE IN THE PICTURESI highly recommend purchasing clear glass mugs/drink-ware, as some of the specialty drinks are truly beautiful with their frothy tops and wonderful color gradients that absolutely beg to be shown off. The drinks you make at home actually turn out looking like the ones in the product pictures, which surprisingly are not merely 'serving suggestions' as they say in food packaging parlance.IT'S FOR YOU IF...- You want to enjoy a variety of specialty drinks- You and other members of your household have different beverage preferences- You don't mind purchasing supplies online or at a home goods store- You regularly purchase beverages from Starbucks and the like, and want an at home substitute to lower your cost per cup- You entertain often and would like to serve delicious and impressive looking fresh brewed beverages to your guests- You don't mind paying more for quality, variety, versatility and convenienceTHINK TWICE IF...- You drink coffee by the potful- You have no interest in specialty beverages such as espresso, crema, lattes, cappuccino, mocha, cocoa and teas- You are looking for a large variety of decaffeinated options -- there are decaf choices, but not an abundance- You are extremely cost conscious -- the cost per cup is less than retail coffee chains, but more costly than folgers and coffemate- You are extremely eco-conscious -- the packaging and (as far I know) non-recyclable t-discs may send you into a carbon footprint panic

Ours works perfectly everyday, for over two years now
G. Conner

First let me say; I did not want this machine. My wife bought it because she finds culinary arts, (like boiling water,) difficult... especially in the A.M. I'm too cheap to pay this much for a coffee machine and the expensive individual pods. Further, I am ethically opposed to all the packaging waste the pods create. So I was no fan of this system... until I had it for the last two years. Now, we find it indispensable. It sees use two or three times every morning, one or two times in the afternoon and more on the weekend if we have guests. Other than routine cleaning, we have had no problems with it.A note about the "piercing problem" other reviewers mention...As befitting of my manly wont, I started using this thing without reading instructions. It is a tribute to Bosch engineers that I was able to get away with that for so long. However, I too noticed an occasional glitch where the grounds would spill and spray all over... which challenged my male tool-using prowess. Then I learned that you should be gentle and not slam down the lid. It would be an understatement to say, "I'm not very coordinated in the morning." If we share the kitchen during early hours, my daughter calls me "Big Foot." (It's not MY fault she doesn't wear shoes before 9AM!)As my wife later learned, you can't put the pod in crooked or upside down and expect happy results. Sometimes, when she is not yet fully awake, she does stuff like that: puts the pods in upside down, puts shoes in the freezer or puts her Blackberry in the toaster. It's hard to answer a pop-tart.(Really... I 'm not kidding. TWICE! We got a thick protective pad for it and attached her keys to it so it won't fit in the toaster anymore. The jingling-keys usually alert her before it's too late. BTW, our Cuisinart toaster still works and so does the Blackberry!)So if we put the pod in correctly and don't hammer the lid down, we have ZERO problems. If this machine can withstand both a Somnambulistic Sasquatch and the Terrible Telecom Toaster, it must be robust!(minimum 4 cycles per day, 365 days X 2 years, plus weekend guests... I estimate that is over 3,000 cups o' Joe!)Maintenance...You have to wipe down the laser-window once a month or so. That takes two or three seconds. (a moist tissue works better than a paper towel)Routine internal cleaning is easy with the (supplied) cleaning disc. (Put disc in, press button. Repeat.)If your water is funky, you will have to run a few more cleanings cycles or use a special cleaning agent they sell. We bought another Tassimo for our daughter in law who has city water; that's how I know. (Hers has also has worked perfectly for over a year now, and SHE makes those sticky sugary drinks with it.) Frankly, I haven't noticed any great improvement with the cleaning agent, so we just use good water for the cleaning cycle. With our home water purifier, we've had no problems and the beverages consistently taste great. (I'm having Yuban this morning)Joan Jet should write another hit: "I hate myself for loving this machine" but it really has made good coffee and GREAT espresso for over two years. It's SO convenient! I might go to hell for the egregious extra landfill all the pod-packaging makes, but I will be wide awake when I get there.

Bodum Santos Stovetop Glass Vacuum 34-Ounce Coffee Maker

On sale now for Bodum Santos Stovetop Glass Vacuum 34-Ounce Coffee Maker is now hitting the market. This awesome product is currently available, you might purchase it right now for just $0.00 and usually delivered in a single day.

Product Information

As beautiful as sculpture, as fascinating as chemistry, and as entertaining as theater, this coffeemaker from Switzerland converts the ordinary process of brewing coffee into an artful performance. And it makes six 5-ounce cups of full-flavored coffee while it entrances. The coffeemaker fits together like this: water goes into the carafe, a filter fits into the mouth of a tube in the top globe, ground coffee goes into the globe (a scoop is included), the globe fits atop the carafe with the tube extending into the carafe, and the carafe goes onto the stovetop with a trivet or heat diffuser between it and electric or gas heat. (This is all much simpler and quicker than it sounds.) Water boils up through the tube into the globe and brews the coffee. When brewing is complete and the carafe has been taken off the stovetop and set into its accompanying sculpted trivet, the coffee drains through the filter into the carafe. The globe can then be lifted off the carafe and set on its stand, and coffee can be poured from the carafe, which has a stay-cool handle. A stopper for the carafe keeps second cups warm while the first cups are sipped. Fully assembled, the coffee maker stands 11-1/2 inches high. It's made of heat-resistant glass and durable, gleaming nylon, and all parts are dishwasher-safe. --Fred Brack

Features

  • Theatrical, entertaining method of brewing six 5-ounce cups of coffee

Wonderful coffee is the reward for patience ...
JT

The Bodum Santos Vacuum Coffeemaker makes excellent coffee. Smooth, full flavored, hot. This model requires more interaction than a percolator or drip coffeemaker. If you're not willing to participate in the coffee making process, don't purchase this coffeemaker. However, the end result is well worth the few extra minutes required. Some tips that may be useful:1.) Use coarse grinds to avoid clogging the filter;2.) When placing the upper chamber on the lower carafe, make sure there is a good seal between the two globes, as this will help in the vacuum process;3.) Always make sure there is at least a centimeter or two of water remaining in the lower carafe, otherwise the carafe will crack;4.) Allow the water and grinds to mix together in the upper chamber for a minute or two before removing from heat source (coarse grinds produce a weaker flavor compared to finer grinds, so allow a bit more time for the water to extract the flavor of the beans while in the upper chamber);5.) Remove the entire coffeemaker from the heat source and carefully place on a cool surface, keeping in mind that the coffeemaker will be top heavy and hot;6.) If the coffee remains in the upper chamber and doesn't completely drain to the bottom carafe, return the entire coffeemaker to the heat source again for a minute, then remove again to a cool surface;7.) Purchase a good thermos or insulated carafe to transfer your remaining coffee to (Nissan Thermos is a good brand, check out reviews on Amazon.com).8.) Coffeegeek.com and Coffeekid.com have additional information on vacuum brewing.Pros: Coffee is hot, full-flavored, and not bitter. The process is fun. Clean up is easy, if done soon after brewing. Affordable from Amazon.com when on sale. Reusable filter. Coffee is hot, full-flavored, and not bitter. (It's worth mentioning twice.)Cons: Capacity is only 8 cups (32 oz.). Filter can sometimes be unreliable. Uses more grinds than average peculator or drip models. Extra caution needed when using, as most of the coffeemaker is made of glass. Instructions are scant.Five stars for a wonderful product.

Over the learning curve.

I purchased my unit about a year ago from Amazon.com and after about a month of frustration with the filter constantly clogging, I put it out of sight (out of sight = out of mind). When I could get it to work properly, it was great because the coffee tasted the way it smelled - wonderful. But, it was simply not worth the time and effort to get one pot out of 15 to brew properly. I tried burr grinders and the inexpensive type grinders. I tried coarse grind, medium grind, fine grind and everything in between with no success.About two-months ago I remembered I had the Bodum Coffeemaker and so I decided to revisit the task of trying to make a 'perfect cup of coffee - and it worked perfectly!I use the Bodum Coffeemaker almost every day now and it works as advertised 100% of the time. I have developed a system that works for me by taking suggestions from several of the reviews from Amazon.com and from some helpful advice from a Barnies' sales representative about how to store and use coffee beans. The one thing that I was probably doing wrong the first time was that I listened to a friend who thought he knew about how to store coffee beans. If you want to go from coffee beans to coffee dust, freeze the beans or keep them in the refrigerator - I guarantee you that this will work. It does not matter what your grind setting is on your burr grinder because you will get so much dust that the Bodum filter will clog and coffee cannot get sucked back into the lower chamber.I now keep my coffee beans in an airtight container in the pantry, grind them as needed and then follow these additional procedures to get great tasting coffee - every time.Make sure the seal is clean and dry and the top is pressed firmly down onto the lower unit. I use a gas burner at a medium-high setting and do not use a diffuser. I think that the diffuser may be recommended to help keep the handle cooler in case you do not center the pot over the flame. Also, be sure you put the lid on top of the upper unit. And, do use caution, because the handle does get very warm.I keep the burner on the same heat setting for 30 seconds after all of the water (except what is below the tube) goes into the upper chamber. There is still a little water left below the tube in the bottom chamber that will continue to boil. Turn the burner off after about 30 seconds, remove the upper chamber lid, and you can do one of two things at this point. If you do not want to move the coffeemaker while the top is full, just leave it on the burner and in a couple of minutes, the burner grate will cool enough to create the vacumm in the lower unit. If you want to cut a minute or two off of the procedure, use a oven mitt to hold the handle with one hand while you use the other hand to 'stablize' the top and move the coffeemaker to an adjacent cold burner.I can actually hear air being sucked into the lower chamber after all of the liquid has been removed from the upper chamber, which takes less than 10-15 seconds once it starts. I then use an oven mitt to hold the handle, remove the top chamber and put it in its neat holder, and pour my eight cups of great tasting coffee into my twenty-five year old Stanley stainless steel thermos. I now have great tasting coffee - all day long. After the top and bottom units have cooled, I remove the filter and clean both chambers being careful to not bang them against anything hard. The glass is thin, which it has to be, but seems pretty durable.I give the unit five stars because I am the one who caused most, if not all, of the original problems by improperly storing the coffee beans which resulted in a lot of dust when they were ground. The taste of the coffee made by this unit warrants five stars.

Bodum Santos Vacuum Coffee Makers
Joanne Evens

I cannot rave enough about this treasure made in Copenhagen. I have used every conceivable type of coffee maker in the past, but this one is simply the best I have ever used. It is beautiful to look at, very easy to use and clean, and makes the best cup of coffee I have ever tasted. I ordered the electric version of this brand, but when it arrived, it had a defect, so I returned it immediately. I am so happy I didn't order the electric one because it was twice the amount of money that I paid for the non-electric one. I am going to tell all my friends about it--unfortunately you can't buy it in any stores, only through Amazon.com. Congratulations on carrying this absolute gem of a coffee maker!! Nice and the price is right.
Johnny_1

I like it a lot and it's very inexpensive compared to other porcelain sets I have seen(I have seen porcelain filter holders costing more than this whole set!). I bought Melitta no.1 filters and they work okay but overflow a little too easy for me, and they require more attention since you have to keep filling it over time to prevent overflow. I might try some no.2 cone filters, I have a feeling they might be the best fit. UPDATE: I did get some Melitta no.2 filters and they are the perfect fit, and that's what I will get in the future. Before I bought the no.2s, I used some Melitta no.4 cone filters and they work fine and prevent overflow but they do extend way above the rim. I don't recommend buying no.4s, but if you already have some you can use them to see how you like it before buying no.2s. Some people might perfer the no.4s if they don't aim very well. ;)Just be aware it is a small coffee maker and that the coffee doesn't stay hot too long in it. I find myself drinking the first cup faster so that the second cup won't get cold. Of course, I could just poor the whole thing in a larger thermal coffee cup or make one cup at a time.I find the coffee made via this little set does taste good, no plastic flavors from some conventional makers that some people can taste, or at least we think we can :). The water temperature and the size of your grind are crucial in getting the right flavor but well worth it. On my coffee grinder, I vary it between the cone and french press setting, of course this will vary depending on the grinder and personal preferences. The online sources that I have read say the water temp should be about 200F, and they recommend not letting it boil or at least for long, since this causes the air to go out of the water and will make it flat. I found different temperatures do change the flavor a fair amount; maybe I over heated it, not sure. I will order a thermometer in the future so I can experiment with different temperatures. Also, for you Keurig owners, I own a Keurig Platinum B70, and I wanted to brew some different coffees without k-cups, and lucky for me when I remove the Keurig's spill tray this porcelain coffee maker fits nicely under the Keurig (which brews up to 192F on the highest setting), so now I can get my coffee fresh and fast! In the final analysis I find the Keurig k-cups are fine if I use cream and sugar, or if I want my coffee fast, but I am starting to drink my coffee black again, and I think it tastes better via this porcelain coffee maker, or possibly I haven't found the right k-cups for me. Anyway, I am very happy with this porcelain coffee maker!I hope this was helpful. Enjoy!

Love it!

I am so happy with this little drip coffee maker and it worked perfectly. I bought the #2 coffee filters as the other reviewer recommended and they worked out just right.I can only drink decaf which my husband does not like so this little coffee maker is perfect for me...also the 2 cups of coffee is all I need.I fill the little pot with water then pour that into my water kettle so that I never have to worry about over-filling. Once my coffee is brewed I put it on a cup warmer to prevent it from getting cold. For the price you cannot beat this little drip coffee maker. It was just what I was looking for.

Simple and easy alternative
Value Over Price

A simple alternative to electric, plastic, run-of-the-mill coffee makers. After experimenting, I found a fine grind works best -- about 2-1/2 tbs to two cups water. Total prep time to microwave the water, grind the beans, prep the filter, pour the water, and brew: about 4 minutes. I'm trying to move away from using plastics for food preparation and storage, so this was a good option for me. And, unless you drop and break it, it will last forever. Can't beat that.

Northwest Glass Yama TCA-5D 20-Ounce Coffee Siphon Vacuum Pot, 1-Unit

Best offer for Northwest Glass Yama TCA-5D 20-Ounce Coffee Siphon Vacuum Pot, 1-Unit is trending. This best product is currently available, you can purchase it this moment for just $0.00 and often ships within a day.

Item Description

Directions for use; use a slightly finer grind of coffee. Drop the washable, reusable cloth covered filter into the infussion chamber with the chain hanging down into the glass syphon tube. Pull the chain down until you can hook it to the bottom of the siphon tube. Fill the bottom carafe to the 5 mark with hot water and place 5 measuring spoons of coffee in top chamber. Fill the burner with soot free denatured alcohol, ethyl or an ethyl / isopropyl mixture that's high on the ethanol side - isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) tends burns hotter than ethyl or methyl alcohols, but also burns orange and produces a lot of soot.  This is available at hardware or outdoor stores. It takes about 4 minutes to heat the water, all the water is siphoned to the top chamber and then allow 2 minutes to brew. Once you remove from the heat source, the coffee comes back down to the bottom carafe. Remove the top, placing it in its convertible lid/stand, and bring the pot to the table for serving.

Factor Benefits

  • This stylish siphon has a base with a beautiful look for any home or office
  • Made of heat resistant borosilicate glass
  • 20-Ounce capacity
  • Inludes a soot free denatured alcohol burner
  • Recommended by coffee Geek for making a smooth, delicious cup of coffee

first siphon experience
Virgil Hovar

I wanted to try the siphon method of brewing and thought this would be a good entry level pot. I have been very pleased with it so far. I have used it almost every day since I received it and used it for a presentation on coffee brewing methods. I must say that I was a bit disappointed when it arrived to see that the product features had not been (nor still is) accurate. The listing stated (and still does) that this unit also "Includes an bamboo stir stick and a butane burner". Of course it did not. It contained a plastic measuring spoon that also works as a stirrer as well as an alcohol burner. I had done enough research to suspect this was the case.On the topic of burner; I had read quite a bit about the slowness of the alcohol burner but this really hasn't been too much of an issue for me. I heat my water in an electric water kettle before putting it in the siphon and it is back up to a boil in a very short time with the alcohol burner. I could see this being an issue if you didn't preheat the water or were using a larger pot.So far I'm very pleased with my purchase and would consider using this company and supplier in the future.

Inexpensive entry-level siphon makes great coffee

Vacuum brewing is a blast! It may take some trial and error at first, but the high quality of the resulting brew more than rewards your persistence in getting your technique just right. The Yama TCA-3 was the second coffee siphon I purchased. The first was a Hario Nouveau 5-cup model. While the build and glass quality of the Yama can't hold a candle to those of the Hario, that was to be expected, as the Yama is about half the price. More importantly, the Yama does make a great cup of coffee. From a tactile standpoint, the Hario feels better in the hand and seems more solid; the Hario Nouveau's rubber seal between the top and bottom globes is of much higher quality. Why didn't I buy another Hario, then? Hario has stopped importing them into the U.S. While they can be found occasionally on eBay or bought from vendors in Canada, the availability of parts is a potential concern. The Yama, at its much lower pricepoint, is a perfectly adequate entry-level vacuum brewer and a reliable "daily driver" coffeemaker. As such, I definitely recommend it for someone on a budget, or someone who wants to try vacuum brewing for the first time but is reluctant to spend over a hundred dollars on a Hario (or significantly more than that on a Cona).Don't be surprised if the bamboo stir stick described in the ad doesn't arrive with the brewer: there was no sign of it in my package. On a side note, if you find you enjoy vacuum brewing, I would highly recommend getting a butane burner to replace the included alcohol burner: the butane flame burns cleaner and hotter.

Great Coffee!
C. Jones

This pot makes a very clean and bright cup of coffee. However, for the price, I would have expected better quality in the construction. While the glass and rubber gaskets seem fine, the plastic components and the base feel cheap. The spring that holds the filter in place seems like it won't last more than a few years. When this eventually gives out, I'll continue to make siphon coffee, but probably find a different company.

Super fast
Jo-Ann L. Copp

The Keurig 48 oz single seerve brewer is super-fast and makes great coffee, tea, hot cocoa or hot cider. I love the ease of use and the wide variety of beverages you can make. It's no larger than our previous, traditional coffee maker and it accomodates everyone's tastes. Wonderful!

The BEST Coffee Maker EVER!!!
Molly's Mom

I love this coffee maker! Yes, the k-cups are a bit pricey, but for a coffee lover, it can't be beat. I can have friends over and make a cappuccino, cup of tea, hot cocoa... something different for everyone with extreme ease and very minimal mess... Plus, the taste is amazing! The only downside is that now everyone wants to meet at my house... always! This is my 2nd Keurig, my first one got dropped while moving, and unless something changes drastically, I will ALWAYS have a Keurig!

great with minor change
joseph martin

I rec. mine for Xmas and love it.The K cups are much neater then my old machines messy cup that I had to grind, fill and clean coffee grinds with. This you just drop in the K cup and remove it after,NICE,and the coffee is good. There are hundreds of flavors to choose from also.I only had one problem, every time I made a cup the tank would not fill back up and the word PRIME would appear.I did what the instructions said, cleaned the tank and filter screen even though it looked fine and it would work fine for a few cups then same thing again.I live at Lake Tahoe and our water is 99% pure yet something invisible was clogging the filter screen????? The screen is just to darn fine and gets clogged way to easy.I removed it with a small screw driver, very easy to do and now it works great. You do need to clean it once in a while by running white vinegar through it but this should be done with all coffee makers.

Keurig Mini
Courtney LaPole

I love this! It is just what I was looking for. I was sold when I saw that I could get one in something besides boring black. Plus it's much smaller than the traditional so it takes up much less counter space! I have been recommending it to many people!

Colors are more fun!
Abbyicole

Love the color! Good for a couple or a single person. Fun to have the bright color on my countertop

Love the Mini!
Alyjgarcia

As my first Keurig, I am so impressed by the Mini Plus! I only drink about 1-2 cups of coffee and this perfect for a college student, like myself, but it would be great for anybody! It only takes a couple minutes to make my coffee, which is so much faster than my old coffee maker! I LOVE the colors that this comes in and it was definitely a good investment.

CV1 convenient, clean, and easy to use. I work from home throughout the week use the CV1 every day. Couldn't think of a better gift for someone who works from home or for the occasional weekend coffee drinker. Also got a CV1 for my mom when we have holiday parties and instead of making a pot of coffee and seeing it go to waste, she uses the CV1

So Happy we made this purchase!
Chris Moje

This coffee maker looks great and is simple to use. It produces a hot, high quality cup of coffee. A "definite recommend".

Outstanding Product
jmo635

Look no further! The cafe valet is inexpensive but it is extremely durable and makes the best cup of single serve coffee I have ever had. I travel frequently and have had the opportunity to use most of the other products like this. This system is the easiest to use and has the best tasting coffee. You will be amazed that others charge way more for more complicated systems that don't produce the same results.

Great, Great, Great
VonTrousers

I jumped on the pour-over bandwagon years ago but, frankly, the pour-over movement has become pretentious and silly. I don't have time--nor do I care to--weigh hot water on a tared-out scale (and not just any scale; must be the "right" one). I don't want to be lectured for grinding the beans 45 seconds before infusing them (instead of 41 seconds!). I just want to make a great cup of coffee at home, without expensive equipment. In that quest, I own or have owned a Chemex, Melitta cone, Hario Woodneck, and a couple of press pots. I could make great coffee in each of them, but inconsistently. I never knew what I was going to get in response to a minute change (What if the water didn't exactly make it to 204 degrees? What if the grinder was just a little off? What if an errant air bubble prevented a tiny bit of coffee from being saturated?)Enter the Clever. This is really easy: Flush paper filter, warm dripper (and mug), add coffee (standard drip grind works well enough--or maybe a tad coarser), add water, cover, stir after 90 seconds,re-cover, drain coffee into mug at 4-minute mark, say "yum."As others have written, the result is a smooth, full-bodied cup and really easy clean-up (try cleaning a Woodneck--ugh).I'm sold. Well, until the next best thing comes along.

Clever coffee dripper
bdagirl

Just got my "clever coffee dripper" and have made two cups of coffee with it, per the instructions. The entire process takes about 5 minutes if the coffee is already ground. The longest part is letting the coffee steep in the dripper while you prepare your breakfast. After 4 minutes, you sit the filled dripper onto your cup and let it drain. It did seem better than my usual Melita drip cup and it was very easy to clean when I was finished with it. Put a drop of soap in the dripper and fill with warm water and let is sit for a few minutes. Lift it and push up the bottom and out runs the soapy water which cleans the whole system in 5 seconds. Then rinse a few times and put upside down to let it dry. Very pleased with it so far.

Excellent, Well-Designed Product. Works GREAT!
Poi Sen Pen

Why nobody came up with this coffee brewer design before Sweet Maria's, I'll never know. But I'm sure glad I found out about this one. Works, in theory, like a french press but makes a FAR cleaner cup of coffee. Easier to clean, excellent to take travelling, camping, or just relaxing at home. You will not be disappointed.
