This is a simple machine that makes great tasting coffee quickly and easily.The reason I like this so much is the versitility, you can use ground coffee, coffee pods and/or tea pods (in a pinch I even used a regular celestial seasons pepermint teabag for a great cup of tea!) I do not have to buy expensive capsules and I can quickly enjoy a great cup of coffee or tea!Just like all new products made with plastic I recommend cleaning before first use per the product instructions. It did have a strong plastic smell (as other reviewers mentioned) when I first opened it. I cleaned the product and ran water through it with the various pod and ground coffee holders before my first cup as recommended. I ran plain water through the whole process about 5-7 times before my first cup. (It took all of 9 minutes 10 at most!) There was no plastic smell or taste when I used it for my first cup of coffee. Sounds like it pays to clean the product first!You can brew for one or two with a wide variety at a low cost.I give it 4 stars because it is not a high tech piece of equipment. However, it is perfectly simple. So I would in reality give 4 and a half if I could.Cheers!

Uses 1 or 2 standard coffee (or tea) pods per cup, or ground coffee. Capacity of ground coffee cavity adequate for any strength. Brews fairly quickly. Requires a water fill for each brew cycle; use a measuring cup if you can't pour cleanly from your mug. Plastic smell is a non-issue if you clean it first (can you imagine NOT doing so?). Wipe off all parts and simply run a couple of brew cycles with no coffee. VERY easy to clean (all brewing elements totally accessible). I've been using mine a couple of times per day for over a year with absolutely NO reliability issues - it just keeps chugging along.Reliable, simple, effective: give it 5 stars.

We have had the Mr. Coffee Single cup coffee maker since December. It produces a excellent cup of hot coffee. I would highly recommend. I especially like the fact you can either use a pod or your own grind of coffe.
