Not a good experience - with UPDATE (19Apr2013)

I want to first say that I didn't buy this item from Amazon, but I'm here a lot for other things, so I thought I'd pass on experience with the Nespresso unit above. After a lot of research my wife and I settled on the Maestria. I hesitated buying from Amazon because we did run across the occasional bad review and figured it was less hassle to buy local. Once I found out Bed Bath & Beyond sold them, it was a no-brainier because they have and excellent return policy.Once we received the unit, it looked great and of solid construction. Most of the body is aluminum. The problems started when we followed the directions to brew our first cup. The machine would run, but no water would be pushed into the coffee capsule. I found some info saying that it might take up to 8 times to prime the pump and get rid of the air bubbles in the water line....cool no problem....20X later, nothing. So I hit the Internet. I found info saying to run the descaling program...did that...and another saying to keep the capsule lever open while priming the pump (given by a Nespresso rep).Probably another 3 hours and 50+ times later, nothing. The next day, my wife happened to be by a Bloomingdales which also happen to have a Nespresso "Boutique". She bought the exact same model/color. We brought it home and guess what...same thing. So now we have two machines on our counter and kinda making a game out of who can get theirs to work first as we call the Nespresso tech support. They clarified that our troubleshooting that we'd already done was correct and should have worked. We tried a few other things over the phone to both machines at the request of the Nespresso rep. Still nothing. Its a shame because, Nespresso coffee is really good. IMO better than K-cups, and other similar capsule type coffees. The reason why I know is because we stayed at a hotel that had a Nespresso machine in our room and complementary capsules. We drank so much coffee that week it was crazy!!! It was really that good and what turned us on to the brand. With all that said, one thing that stuck out from the rep is that it may be this model because according to Nespresso they don't have very many problems with the other models....so I'm reluctantly considering another model within their line. This time we'll go to the boutique, and have them test out whatever we choose before taking it home. That, and asking for a discount because of all the troubles. Why go to all the trouble? Because its really good coffee ;-) As far as I know there are currently no other machine brands that work with the Nespresso capsules or else I'd consider it.Of course YMMV. My suggestion, if you really want this model, would be to buy at the store if possible and test it there before taking it home. I know that's not always doable though.RobUPDATE: 19Apr2013I've delayed updating my previous comments because after replacing our last machine, I wanted to make sure things worked for a while on a consistent basis before posting again.I'm glad to report that our third machine has been working great. We've been using it multiple times per day...sometimes as many as 6 times per day between my wife and I. Just to caveat that statement, each pod is really good for about an 8-10 oz cup IMO, so if you're wanting a Venti size, to put it in Starbucks vernacular, you're using at least two pods per cup. So you can see how you might use your machine 6 times between two people...especially if you go through more than one Venti in a day....I did say it was good coffee didn't I ;-)We did exactly what I recommended above. We had the Nespresso folks open a box and fire the machine up in front of us...with water of course. We did go with the same model because after researching more, the next one up used the same internal pump as the one we were having issues with.It seems to me that these machines either work or they don't. Aside from the few reviews which describe how to get one working that originally didn't (which obviously didn't work for us), I wasn't satisfied with spending this kind of money to potentially have to deal with issues later. As much as we use our newest machine on a daily basis, I'm confident with the one we have now. For whatever its worth, the Nespresso CS was great. They took care of the issue without question, and even threw in some more free coffee (pods), for our trouble.Hopefully this wraps up the review.BTW: I don't know if increasing the stars is warranted or not, so I'm leaving it. I feel like potential buyers should know the pros and cons first in order to make an educated decision....even though it's based on only my experience(s). If I hadn't gone through all these issues, and this was my first machine, I'd definitely give it 5 stars.
