This coffee maker is not easy to program - I needed a flashlight to read the PM for time display. Also, the auto clean cycle is not exactly automatic. You can clean almost any coffee maker by putting water and vinegar through the machine's cycle. This said, the machine seems to function all right, and the coffee is fine. Only had it for one day, so we'll see how it holds up.**By the way, in order to register this product with Black & Decker, you will need to read numbers on the prongs of the plug - so don't plug it in until you register or you'll have to reset the time and auto brew again.

Great Coffee, but a Noisy Little Thing!

My wife and I got this coffeemaker as a wedding gift in July. Unfortunately, something was wrong with the particular one we received, and a week to the day from when we first used it, it quit working entirely. It just wouldn't turn on at all. We contacted customer service and after a few hoops, managed to get a free replacement with shipping waived. We've been using our replacement for about two months now and haven't had a problem since! The product info on this page isn't overly specific, so hopefully I can help:- The "Sneak-a-Cup" feature is handy when you're desperate for a cup of joe in the morning. Even while the coffee is still brewing, you can remove the carafe and pour a cup for yourself; the coffeemaker will stop brewing for about thirty seconds while you pour your cup, then it will resume brewing as soon as you put the carafe back on the base.- The hot plate will keep your coffee hot for two hours, after which it automatically shuts off. If you're like us and don't drink your coffee quite fast enough (especially with only two people in the house), this can be a bit annoying. Then again, who wants coffee that's been sitting around for a few hours? The display shows how long it's been since the current pot was actually made (up to 120 minutes, of course).- Buttons for "Strong" brew and for a "1-4 cup" mode. The former really does brew the coffee stronger, which can be nice. The latter is very handy if you won't have time to drink an entire pot; it slows the brewing process down so you get the full flavor of coffee without random dips and surges in the strength and weakness.- Finally, it's also got an automatic mode, which is becoming standard in coffeemakers today. Set it up the night before, tell it what time you want your coffee to start brewing, and it'll do it.My only complaint about this coffeemaker is that they went too far in trying to be helpful. A feature of this coffeemaker is that it beeps to alert you to when it is done brewing and when it is turning the hot plate off (after two hours of being on). A short beep would have been fine for both of these, I think, but instead what you hear is a long and loud beep -- three of them for "coffee's done!" and FIVE of them for "turning the heat off." It's nice to know when these things are happening, but it's just a bit much, particularly the five beeps for turning it off. Admittedly, the three for the coffee being done brewing have woken me up more than once, so it's sort of like a back-up alarm, but I don't really need it.Overall, I'd recommend this coffeemaker. It brews well, keeps it hot, and is easy to clean. The replacement hasn't failed us yet, so I would imagine the first one was just a fluke. Black & Decker is a name you can trust, generally, and I can certainly attest to that here.

We bought this coffee maker to replace our old worn out one. This coffee maker makes an excellent cup of coffee.PROS::The alarm to let you know when the coffee is done brewing and subsequently when it is turning the machine off 2 hours later. (This is awesome for us, we have a house full of kids and it is great to know when the coffee is read in the morning)The programmable timer. The design. The 4 cup option (tried it once, it worked well!)CONS::Really.. the only thing I don't like is the display. We are fortunate to have the "right" lighting in our kitchen. To be able to read it, but I wish it was readable without having to turn the lights on.All and all a great machine. Remember to not over fill your coffee grounds in the filter and all is right with the world. Oh, and as for the plastic smell... rinse everything out really well before using. I washed my filter basket and carafe before using.
