After being a DAILY Starbucks customer for almost 20 years....yes..daily X 20 years..I don't want to think about it. Anyway...to reward my loyalty, they did away with my 10% gold card discount and raised their prices AGAIN in December and I hear another one is coming in february. I have had a price in my mind for quite awhile that was the limit that I would pay Starbucks to make me a cup of coffee that was worth about $1, and they hit it. So my husband said "pick a machine and I'll get it for your for Christmas". I look at them and I went with this one. I don't drink a complicated drink, I just want it good...and hot..fast would be nice. This machine is fast..real fast. I am impressed at how fast I am walking away from the kitchen with my cup. It is simple enough that my son makes a hot chocolate with ease. There is really nothing to clean..that's good too! I only use bottled water in it because our tap water has alot of minerals and I want to avoid that in this machine. We take water so it is just a matter of walking the tank to the cooler every couple of days. I have tried the latte, the capp, the americano, and the lungo. My husband and the kids like the hot chocolate and the peach tea. The downside to the capps and lattes is that it does take 2 pods.. one milk and one coffee..thus a box of those is really only 8 SMALL/tall servings or 4 grande size servings. At $9-$10 a box at BBB prices(Amazon Sub & Save is about 7.25 a box) it wasn't really beating Starbucks prices by much at almost $2+ a cup. When a cup of coffee is kitchen close.. 2 in the morning and 1 at night is too tempting. So I started thinking about skipping the milk pod...thus getting 16 actual cups from a box.. I have milk sitting in the fridge. I looked around and found the Capresso FrothPro (available on Amazon also). Another $60 and no more need for milk pods. So now I use the Americano pods and the froth pro and make one decent size, nice and hot cup of coffee in just a few minutes..right from my own kitchen. The weakest thing about the Dolce Gusto systems are the limited flavor/variety they put out for now. A few more teas would be GREAT....and a few more coffee choices would help them out ALOT. It was hard to choose this machine over one that has dozens of choices..for now though, I am quite happy with it. The coffee is nice and smooth, hot and very quick. The amount of counter space it takes up is not a bother. Less space than the coffee maker I replaced and a better coffee. With the Creativa and the FrothPro I have my coffee habit back down to less than $1 a cup. Down from $3.75 a day from Starbucks.

I love my coffees and specialty drinks. I'm not new to the single-serve coffee experience. I own two Bosch Tassimos, and have a wealth of different kinds of coffee brewers and coffee bean grinders. I find a use for each one ; That said, the Creativa is a beautiful machine. Well made and great to look at. Love the way it walks through the steps. This machine really has intelligence! You can adjust manually to brew your own drink, and save the recipe. Or, you can go with the automatic pre-settings for the ultimate brew in my opinion. The DG has more utility than my Ts, in that the DG can brew hot and cold, and regardless of what some say, that 15 bars of pressure makes a lot of difference. In comparison to the Tassimo(s) I own, the specialty drinks were larger and much tastier. I'm of the opinion the DG powdered milk produces a thicker, and taller froth than I ever got from my Tassimos. A better tasting chocolate, latte and cap. Again, to my palate, better tasting, more like a coffee house experience. Tassimo froths are bland, watery, and most often tasteless. I was a little worried about some reviews stating the coffees/drinks were not hot enough. I didn't experience the same. The DG Drinks I've brewed were hot and did not cool down all that fast. I know I've read, you need to wait until the on-light stops flashing. There are tips that you can bring your water up to room temps first or brew a plain cup hot of water before brewing your DG drink, etc. I haven't had to do any of that. I use cold filtered water right from my side by side refrigerator dispenser. My brews still result in hot drinks. The cold drinks are a joy. From the Tassimo I had to either freeze coffee cubes before brewing my iced coffee which melted the cubes and watered down the drinks. With DG I can just add my ice cubes, immediately brew iced coffee or Peach tea over all, for a wonderful undiluted watered down drink. Less work, less fuss. So far I love the taste of the Chococino, Mocha, Peach Tea, the Lattes, and the caps. There isn't a huge variety of regular joes or teas, and I think many of us are hoping the future will see more offered to us DG customers.Edited to add: I still love this brewer system. Not a lot of choices for drinks but in my opinion what is available is very good. And what is good are the fantastic tasting lattes and caps. Now add in a really nice Chai Tea. Although I own other Single Serve brewers, I would not part with my Creativa. What drinks the brewer makes, it does it very well.

I've purchased and used a Tassimo, a Keurig and now the Dolce Gusto. Each one has some pros and cons.The Tassimo is super easy to use with the bar code technology. Plus, the coffee variety is ok and you can make coffee house drinks. While the quality of the drinks is good, I don't think they are as good as the Creativa.The Keurig is also very easy to use and there is a large variety of coffees, teas and other hot drinks, but no coffee house drinks.The Dolce Gusto Creativa is easy to use, but not as easy as the Tassimo because you have to select on the display the type of drink you are making. However, I can say that this machine blows the Tassimo away as far as drink quality goes. I made capuccinos with my Tassimo and didn't think they were that good. I just made my first with the Creativa and I'm thinking about when to make another one. I also like that you can tweak the brewing cycle and save the recipe for the next time. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase of the Krups Dolce Gusto Creativa.
